Mr Prokeš talked shortly about the office´s activities emphasizing that it understands its role as a helping hand for individuals: “We do not want to be a fining machine. Our office is an institution that has been founded namely to help protect one of the fundamental human rights – the right to privacy.”
Commissioner Jourová mentioned the necessity to bring personal data back into the hands of individual people: “Now we are witnessing an often unscrupulous collection of personal data that in fact have become kind of tradable commodity where human individuality has gradually disappeared. Thus people have been losing control over their data”.
The General Data Protection Regulation will become effective in 45 days.
