The Czech Office for Personal Data Protection and the Spanish Data Protection Agency wish to make a mutual statement affirming the excellent results obtained while carrying out the Twinning Project PHARE CZ2000/IB/OT/03, in implementation of the Covenant signed by both parties.
The Spanish Agency thus acknowledges the very favourable impression it has formed of the professionalism of the staff of the Czech Office, and of the manner in which the Office operates, which is leading it to be situated on a par with the most advanced data protection authorities of the European Union. For its part, the Czech Office wishes to express its gratitude for the extent of assistance given in the project by the Spanish experts, whose knowledge in depth of the field of data protection has enabled it to develop its activities and to ensure that the issue of data protection is more widely understood by citizens of the Czech Republic. Moreover this cooperation allows the full assumption of the acquis communautaire in this field.
Both institutions are aware of the unavoidable need to increase cooperation between data protection authorities, with a view to the establishment of a uniform application of data protection legislation existing in different countries. This need has, if anything been increased by the explicit recognition of the fundamental right to personal data protection, afforded by the European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The two Supervisory authorities have agreed at the end of the Twinning Project that they will maintain close cooperation within the framework of the various institutions and international fora to which they belong, and bilaterally, given the practical value of exchanging ideas and experiences which has been proven during the period of the Project.
This cooperation could be focused on the next fields:
It is the opinion of both authorities that this will result in better cooperation and exchange of information between them, and, finally, in greater data protection for citizens.
